When repowering your engine with Nizpro, using the correct fuel is vital. Different parts of the world measure fuel differently.

In Europe and Japan, youโ€™ll often see octane ratings like 98 or 100, these numbers use a system called RON.

In the U.S.A and Canada they use the AKI system, which gives lower numbers for the same fuel.

Itโ€™s worth noting that in the U.S.A, octane ratings in unleaded fuels can vary between 86-87 AKI (91-92 RON) for regular, through 89-90 AKI (94-95 RON).

Hereโ€™s a simple way to compare:

Multiply the foreign RON rating by 0.95 to find the U.S. equivalent.

For example, 98 RON is about 93 AKI, and 100 RON is about 95 AKI.

Using the correct octane fuel helps prevent the onset of detonation which means smoother performance, better efficiency, and long-term engine health.

Make sure to check your fuelโ€™s rating before repowering โ€”using a lower octane than recommended can lead to performance issues and even fatal engine damage.

ย AKI or RON?
In the U.S.A and Canada, octane ratings are calculated using an average, sometimes known in shorthand as the Anti-Knock Index, or AKI.
The AKI is calculated by simply combining the Research Octane Number (RON) and the Motor Octane Number (MON) then dividing by 2
